Through one-on-one mentorship, group sessions, field trips, and personal projects, Problem Children encourages students to engage their curiosity, strengthen their courage, and activate their critical thinking. It is a place where students grow their peer network, cultivate their creativity, and exercise their ability for self-directed growth.

Problem Children is a unique opportunity for young creatives to develop their portfolio, add to their CV, and meet a number of creative professionals who will advocate for them into the future.

The 2024 program:

• runs from June 1st to August 24th
• takes place at our studio in the Inner Sunset
• has space for 6 artists working in the visual arts or writing

We believe it’s important that young artists choose to apply of their own interest, but have found that a positive word from a trusted family member, friend, teacher, or mentor goes a long way.

We created Problem Children to be a home for likehearted peers as they work to find their place in our world. The program celebrates and uplifts these young artists who know they are capable of more and are seeking the community, physical space, and guidance needed to get to the next level.

It is a place for students to be challenged to push beyond their comfort zones. A place where their unique interests are honored and innate capacities nurtured. A place where they are supported as they reach levels of observation, understanding, and creative output that exceed what they believed they were capable of.

By challenging students to explore deeply, grow their capacities, and do something great, we honor their personhood and further empower them to create the lives they will lead.

We can’t think of a more important thing to do.
