New sculptures are on view next week and a special exhibition from Wild Life Archive the following week

Join us next Thursday from 5—8pm for a showing of new sculptures from Lynette Nicole Betancur.

This is your chance to see Lynette’s new clay sculptures, which she has been creating at 536 Davis since November. Her latest work is heavily influenced by the body and its landscape vernacular, and represents a significant development in her technical and artistic capabilities with clay.

We believe that Lynette is a rising artist in San Francisco who deserves consideration and support from those who want to witness and promote a new generation of artists in our city. We invite you to join us for an opportunity to meet and talk with Lynette at this exciting moment in her journey as an artist.

There will be a brief introduction and a primer on the [working] program at 7pm.

Come out Friday April 28 for Altered States: a special exhibition from Wild Life Archive.

Wild Life Archive is a collection of ephemera, books, magazines, clothing, and related artifacts that document dance music culture from its early origins to today’s global scene. For the exhibition Altered States the archive presents a selection of material from the first and second summers of love.

History records the first summer of love as 1967 centered primarily on the city of San Francisco, USA and the second summer of love as 1988 across various cities in the UK, although both summers reverberated geographically and out into the future creating a psychedelic continuum.

This exhibition offers a visual sample of printed materials that highlight the shared graphic language of flyers, handbills & postcards that advertised the be-ins, dance concerts, acid tests, club nights and raves of each era alongside supplementary printed matter that serves to provide further visual context.

The exhibition will be available for viewing throughout the weekend. However, we encourage you to attend the opening celebration on Friday the 28th. We will have a specially curated soundtrack by Khotin and a selection of natural wine from Bar Part Time, who will be donating profits to Problem Library.

A trio of exhibitions at 536 Davis St.

The exhibition of new sculptures by Lynette Nicole Betancur marks the beginning of a trio of exhibitions at 536 Davis St. These shows reflect our commitment to utilizing vacant spaces to provide opportunities for artists to create and showcase their work in San Francisco.

Jeff Masamori

Following Lynette’s show, we will be hosting an exhibition of paintings by Jeff Masamori. After nearly two decades as a photographer, Jeff has been exploring the slower process of painting. This new body of work represents a shift in medium while staying true to Jeff’s unique outlook on – and interpretation of – the visual world.

The show is scheduled for May 11, and we will provide further details through a formal announcement in the coming weeks.

Will Thomson

Later on, in early June, we will welcome London-based painter Will Thomson for his second exhibition with Problem Library. Will is producing 10 small paintings that explore the vast sphere of landscape painting. By bringing a contemporary perspective to this historically dense genre, Will has created a set of astounding paintings.

Will holds a special place in the history and trajectory of Problem Library, and we are honored to share this new body of work. More information will be available in May.
