Two weeks, three events to close out our summer season

Join us at the School of Other Fields 2025 summer closing show

We are excited to invite you to the closing show for The School of Other Fields summer cohort, on Saturday, August 16th from 4—7pm.

A closing show for our summer arts mentorship program has been a yearly tradition at Problem Library since we began the program in 2018. However, this is the first summer under our updated name and expanded focus and we look forward to sharing the work of this group work with you.

Like those before them, this young artist cohort has created thoughtful and imaginative works of art. Over the past three months, they’ve experimented, refined, and learned from one another through mentorship and collaboration. The results—sculpture, illustrations, large-scale painting and multi-media installation—explore personal identity and relationships, storytelling, curses and myth-making, and the potential expressions of religion and worship. Each project contains layers of personal meaning and universal appeal.

Come explore their thought-provoking, finely crafted projects and celebrate the months of exploration and growth these talented young artists have undertaken.

What if the park remembered you?

Our newest youth-led program, the Conviviality Cohort, has spent the summer discussing and exploring aspects of gathering, belonging, and local community. Their creative research has developed into a calendar of unique, experimental events and activations. Each event is a public invitation into reflection and exchange on care, maintenance, gratitude, and affection.

The first such activation is this Saturday, August 17, when the cohort invites you to stop by Shakespeare Garden in Golden Gate Park between 1 and 5pm to give a gift to the park. Whether it’s something you made, found, or wish to offer, think of it as a quiet exchange between yourself and the park. A thank you of sorts. A token of appreciation for the land.

What will you bring?

Too Much Information N°5

Join us on Saturday, August 23, as Too Much Information returns to Problem Library for its fifth gathering: an all-day love letter to our summer theme, This, too, is a gift.

Spend the day in exchange and reflection on the gifts we each have to give and those we have received, and perhaps leave with a new gift or two. Throughout the day we’re offering an ambient DJ set, a reading discussion, two guided conversations, time to make postcard art, a nautical story time, and multiple gift exchanges. We’ll also reflect on a season rich with talks, screenings, book launches, and educational programming at 1288 15th Ave and look ahead to the fall. The day will end with a communal Mediterranean dinner.

The schedule is now live. See you there.
