Join us on April 20th for a closing reception at 536 Davis St.

Save the date: Thursday April 20 from 5—8pm for a showing of new sculptures by Lynette Nicole Betancur.

This closing show is a chance to view the final forms Lynette has completed during her time using 536 Davis St as a personal studio.

Lynette’s newest forms represent a deepening of her relationship to scale, form, and materiality. Her new sculptures are beautiful, expressive, and powerful, and best viewed in person—and from many different angles. We encourage you to take this opportunity to experience the work of this talented SF-based artist.

There will be brief introductions to the new sculptures and the [working] program at 7pm.

Lynette’s sculptures are created through an intuitive process of building up from an initial base-drawing. This process has lead her to creating works that are surprising, evocative, and innovative. The sculptures are meant to be viewed from different vantage points, which underscores the ways she is referencing both earthly and bodily landscapes.

By providing Lynette with a dedicated studio, [working] has given her the space and logistical support to create larger clay sculptures. We are very proud of what Lynette has been able to create during her time at 536 Davis St and are actively exploring ways to continue our support of her practice going forward.

Applications for Problem Children summer 2023 are now open.

We are looking for applications from young artists (ages 14 to 18) in the greater Bay Area who want to take their creative practice deeper. Through one-on-one mentorship students are tasked with developing a creative project from conception through execution, and their efforts are celebrated with a public group exhibit at Problem Library.

The program honors youth by challenging their creativity, strengthening their courage, and fostering their self-assurance to chart their own future. It is a space where young artists are encouraged to follow their curiosities, develop their talents, and form enduring and growth-oriented relationships.

At the heart of the program is the belief that if students are given the opportunity to do something great, they will.
