Problem Library’s Summer season opens tonight

Join us tonight as we begin our Summer season

With our Spring season of programming now behind us, we open the doors to a new season—and to guide our explorations, a new theme titled This too, is a gift

Over the coming months, we’ll be exploring this theme across screenings, classes, study groups, launches, collaborative projects, and the fifth edition of TMI. Some offerings will be light and spacious, while others will be more in-depth and pensive. All will invite your time, attention, and care as we ask: what does it mean to see the world, and our work within it, as a gift?

We begin tonight with a talk on multimodal creativity by Danny Jones, and continue tomorrow morning with a conversation on the history of arts education in San Francisco, led by Nicole Meldahl and Daniel Lucas. More on those below.

We’ll be sharing a deeper reflection on the theme, along with the full calendar of summer events, screenings, and open hours, next week. Until then, you can always find the latest on our website.

Thank you for being here—your presence is a gift. We hope to see you tonight, and throughout the season ahead.

Tonight: a talk about Multimodal thinking, generative tools, and the future of creative practice

Join us tonight, Friday, June 6th, at 6pm for a dynamic talk and conversation with 3D artist, designer, and Problem Library’s resident ambient music curator, Danny Jones.

Danny invites us into the layered, unpredictable world of multimodal creativity, exploring how creatives blend AI, cross-disciplinary thinking, and intuitive taste to move fluidly between mediums—shaping innovative ways of working and building worlds that influence how we perceive and feel.

His expansive body of work incorporates the spontaneity of generative design, the vividness of photography, the depth and nuance of 3D art, the expansiveness of spatial design, and the dynamism of animation. Each piece pushes the boundaries of what’s visually possible, weaving narratives that captivate, engage, and encourage viewers to see beyond the surface.

Come explore how multimodal thinking shapes creative practice, worldbuilding, and new forms of expression across disciplines. We look forward to welcoming you tonight.

Tomorrow: research & conversation tracing the history of Arts Education in San Francisco

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, June 7th, at 10am for a lively presentation and open conversation with San Francisco historian Nicole Meldahl (Executive Director of Western Neighborhoods Project) and Problem Library’s Education Director, Daniel Lucas.

The duo will share early-stage research into the origins, ethos, and contemporary resonance of San Francisco’s homegrown art schools. By exploring the storied history of community-led arts education (from SFAI and CCA to Rudolph Schaeffer’s School of Design and Ruth Asawa’s Alvarado Art Workshop), we can draw lessons and inspiration about how to build similar spaces today. These histories sharpen our thinking as we consider: What are we offering young creatives today? How do we build on the legacies of foundational institutions?

If you’ve passed through any of these schools—or helped shape them—we especially hope you’ll join us, share your stories, and contribute to this living history.

Arts education in San Francisco has always flourished through spaces we’ve built together, conversations we’ve kept alive, and futures we’ve dared to imagine. Let’s keep the conversation going.
