Movement, Art, and History at the edge of San Francisco

Join us on Friday for a movement & art experience

This Friday, April 10, we’re hosting a special art-infused community yoga class by Set Sun followed by an art opening with our very own Alice Barreras.

The class will draw on Katonah Yoga’s “Body As A House” concept to identify our patterns and consider how they are shaped by our history and inform our future. Each movement will be surrounded by Alice’s art: painted wooden objects that draw from domestic space, folklore, and storytelling.

This collaboration emerged from a conversation between Alysha Harris (of Set Sun) and Alice Barreras about how personal stories & cultural mythologies shift over time and how mundane objects like wooden spoons and cutting boards can bring us into deeper connection with our heritage.

Join us this Friday for some time on the mat, in the gallery, and in conversation to sit with what we’ve inherited and imagine how we might remake the rooms we live in.

Yoga at 5:30pm / Art opening at 7pm

Find us on Sunday at Ocean Beach for a historical treasure hunt

We’ve partnered with Shaping SF, Ocean Beach Institute, and Western Neighborhoods Project for the third Then & Now Photo Hunt. The experience takes place on Sunday, April 12th from 12pm–3pm with a route that starts at The Cliff House and ends on Sloat Blvd.

Knowledgeable local guides will be stationed along the route ready to address your curiosities and offer insights about life at the edge of the continent.

Our very own Conviviality Cohort (a working group of early-career artists and designers) has collaborated with ShapingSF on a specially designed keepsake for the event. The small booklet includes custom postcards, artifacts from the beach, and other treasures. You must RSVP to receive a keepsake.

Come explore the human and environmental changes along the Pacific seashore.

RSVP to Then & Now by emailing shaping@foundsf.org
