Join us on Friday for the launch of Ask This Book a Question

This Friday, April 11th, we are pleased to host the San Francisco launch of Vicki Tan’s debut, Ask This Book a Question, which draws from the science of cognitive bias to help readers see decisions more clearly and make them with confidence.

Cognitive biases are shortcuts that shape how we perceive time, how others influence us, and why we remember the bizarre over the familiar. When you view your questions in a different light, you might be surprised by how much clearer your answers become.

This celebration brings Vicki’s debut to life: explore an interactive question loom, browse risograph-printed illustrations from the book’s interior, and submit your question to a specially built website that invites you to “Ask This Website a Question”.

Bring your questions—Vicki might share an unpublished story, an overlooked bias, or an insight to help you move past your own analysis paralysis.

Vicki will close out the evening in conversation with Daniel on the service-oriented origins of her book and how she uses its techniques and frameworks to navigate life with more purpose and grace.

Copies of Ask This Book a Question will be available for purchase courtesy of On Waverly, or you can order yours here.

On Saturday, WNP Book Club returns to discuss We Run the Tides

Join us for a book discussion on We Run The Tides by Vendela Vida, WNP Book Clubs featured title for March—April 2025.

An achingly beautiful story of female friendship, betrayal, and a mysterious teen disappearance set in the tawny Sea Cliff neighborhood, we chose We Run the Tides for its Sea Cliff setting, multigenerational appeal, and bitchin’ 1980s soundtrack.

Together, we’ll enjoy complimentary light refreshments, listen to a few selects from the soundtrack, and chat about the San Francisco we discovered in the novel.

The discussion will be led by Sean Connelly, Humanities lecturer emeritus at San Francisco State University, and WNP’s Executive Director Nicole Meldahl, supported by OpenSFHistory photographs, era-specific activities, and curated listening experiences.

Haven’t read the novel? Come anyway and join us for an evening communing with neighborhood bibliophiles.

A Creative Life continues next Thursday with Dapo Oni

Join us for an immersive exploration of scent, creative flow, and the relationship between our senses, led by designer, DJ, and scent maker Dapo Onikuyide.

Creative flow isn’t about chasing outcomes but learning to move in harmony with the process. How do we make that process feel more nourishing—something that guides us, sustains us, and gives us something to look forward to along the way?

One way Dapo is approaching these questions is through his project Venture, which explores how sensory interaction can lead to flow—whether it stirs the body or opens the mind. His work blends scent, sound, and emotion to create immersive spaces.

This evening, Dapo will guide us through a fragrance composition built around the stages of creative flow. Together we’ll explore how scent shapes our awareness, what it means to slow down, and how to notice what we might have missed.

See you there.
