Join us in celebrating the Problem Children 2024 cohort next Saturday, August 24 from 4–7pm

During the summer, Problem Children artists are challenged to step outside their comfort zones as they explore new mediums, investigate meaningful themes, and achieve new heights of creative sophistication. By taking this challenge head-on the artists create new artworks that expand their capacities and deepen understandings. The closing exhibition and celebration is a time to revel in their creations and commemorate their efforts.

We invite you to join us in acknowledging these talented young artists during the public reception from 4pm to 7pm. There will be refreshments and the artists will be on-site to chat.

Joining us for this celebration is a way to show your encouragement and support of these bright and ambitious artists—we’ll see you there.

Introspection and interrogation.

The projects on view Saturday represent diverse experiences and unique expressions. Central to each is an exploration of the (hidden) forces that influence us and how we overcome, or integrate, them. In confronting these life-long questions, the artists have created artworks that represent their individual growth and new heights of self-understanding.

Whether it’s exploring contradictory human behavior through a multi-media mural, using a “touch pool” to investigate childhood experiences that unmoor us, trying to resolve the tensions of lineage through a hand-made book, or expressing identity through custom made picture frames, each artist’s work represents a quest to understand the world – and how to navigate the currents of life.

These works also shine light on cultural experiences many of us grapple with and which can, at times, become invisible. If we are all fish in the sea, these projects encourage us to stop and ask: what is water?

We look forward to seeing you next Saturday to join us in celebrating these young artists and the depths they have plumbed.
