Continuing to raise the barn

Join us for Barn Raising and save the date for the Problem Children.

Join us on Sundays through the end of August for our weekly Barn Raising

Free and open to public, these gatherings are an opportunity to connect over pastries, fellowship, and a weekly question. Barn Raising is a time to stumble into the happenstance conversations that allow ideas to be born, shaped, and realized.

The weekly questions give us space to find common ground; to talk about the problems we face, the opportunities we see, and the work that needs to be done as we pursue creating that which is true, good, and beautiful. This coming week, we return to the question: “What are you working on, and what do you need?”

The following week we’ll take a break from questions to host the Marin Poetry Center’s Youth Ambassador Program. The two young poets have put together “Life, Death, & Poetry” which invites the public to participate in a four-part poetry and art workshop revolving around our interpretations of the stages of life.

We’ll finish off the month with festive programming and a celebratory tone. We’ll share our experiences, discuss our progress, and reflect on the time we’ve spent Barn Raising.

Celebrate the Problem Children 2023 cohort on August 26th from 4—7pm

Over the past two and a half months, the six artists have applied passion, tenacity, and expansive thinking to create unique and personal projects that grapple with the questions, problems, and curiosities they see in the world.

Whether it’s leaving home, questioning what “home” means, or examining human relationships, each student’s work represents a search for their individual voice – their place in our world. The closing exhibition is a moment to honor their dedication and revel in their creations.

As part of our broader community, your presence is a way of saying “we see and believe in you”. It is a way to affirm their potential, affix their confidence, and expand what they believe is possible in this world.

It is a way of welcoming young artists into the world of self-determination through celebration and togetherness.

Problem Children 2023 closing exhibition

Local Critique on August 15th at 4Star Theater

Finally, join some of the Problem Library team at Local Critique. The first in a new series developed by Nate Zack, the goal is to create an intimate, grassroots context for sharing works in progress. By including a broad range of subjects in an open-ended format, the event hopes to catalyze organic connections between ideas and participants.

Instead of a Q&A, after the presentations, there will be an hour of “digestive” conversation time in the theater to encourage dialogue and reflection.
