"In No Particular Order" closing celebration

Join us at a closing celebration for “In No Particular Order,” a group show of paintings by three emerging, San Francisco–based artists: Alice Barreras, Nico Lown Heitz, and Sofi Criswell.

Each artist explores myths, relationships, and stories as they make sense of the world on their own terms. All three use painting as a form of play and as a way to make tangible artifacts that give shape to a shared understanding of the world as it’s unfolding.

As a collection, the works on view are as much about growing up as they are about growing aware. The show’s title reflects their artistic process and the way growth and learning happen: in waves, phases, and no particular order.

About the artists

Alice Barreras paints from stories that feel half-remembered: Celtic myths, fairy tales, and folk beliefs that overlap history and fictional storytelling. Her work often features warriors, horses, and birds, holding still in moments of conflict or quiet aftermath. Influenced by folk art and narrative painting, she’s drawn to symbols that recur across time: silver offerings, omens, protective gestures. With a steady, composed hand, she paints what endures—not just violence or beauty, but the strange logic that ties them together. Her images hold a quiet care for how stories are told; and for the people and creatures inside them.

Sofia Belen Criswell is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in San Francisco, with a background in design, curriculum development, and cultural organizing. Her work explores what it means to navigate womanhood within a globalized, technocratic America. I reflect on themes of change, identity, and connection—layering vibrant colors and symbolic imagery to evoke emotional, environmental, and political tension.
